Naoussa
Acidity and tannins offer clues beyond fruit.
Terroirs, appellations and label clues
Naoussa is a Xinomavro origin in northern Greece, not all Greek Xinomavro. Relatively pale colour can coexist with marked acidity and tannins: assess the palate before assuming lightness.
To get started
Compare young and more mature bottles from the same producer if possible. Describe tannins and freshness without confusing maturity and sweetness.
Key grapes
Xinomavro — A Greek red with lively acidity and firm tannins. Taste with and without a bite of meat or mushrooms. Note whether tannins feel equally firm in both situations.
Compare regions
Compare regions in the same country too: the same grape can produce different wines as climate, site and producer choices change.
Style descriptions are guides, not rules: vintage, vineyard, blending and maturation change the result.
